Social & Environmental Practices
At Juliette O Designs, sustainability is integral to both our social and environmental practices. Our commitment goes beyond the use of eco-friendly materials, as we embed sustainability into every aspect of our business, ensuring that our processes positively impact both people and the planet.
We take a holistic approach to sustainability by focusing on minimising our environmental footprint from the outset. Our linen fabric is carefully chosen for its low environmental impact. Linen is a natural fibre that requires minimal water, pesticides, and fertilisers during cultivation. It is also highly durable and biodegradable, making it an ideal choice for those who value sustainability without sacrificing quality. In addition, we use GOTS certified pigment inks which use less water than reactive dyes and any chemical usage is minimised and disposed of in a safe manner.
One of our standout sustainability initiatives is repurposing discarded and out-of-use materials. Juliette’s creativity shines through in her ability to transform unconventional materials – such as, silk remnants, expired coffee grains and other waste products – into beautiful, high-quality fabrics. The artwork for our Emerging Bud range (from The Garden Collection), for instance, was thoughtfully crafted using hand and machine embroidery, paper manipulation, hand printing and wirework, all coming together to create a beautiful, timeless design that brings natural textures and depth to interiors. This repurposing practice underscores our commitment to circular design principles, emphasising waste reduction and resource optimisation.
We also focus on minimising waste within our production processes. By carefully managing fabric usage and designing collections with efficiency in mind, we ensure that any offcuts or leftover materials are either repurposed into new designs or donated to artisans and small-scale designers. This circularity prevents waste from entering landfills while contributing to the creativity and livelihoods of others.
In addition to our environmental efforts, we are dedicated to upholding strong social sustainability principles. Ethical labour practices are at the core of our production, with a focus on collaborating with small manufacturers in the UK. We maintain close relationships with our suppliers to ensure that workers are treated fairly, paid a living wage, and operate in safe, supportive environments. This not only ensures the well-being of those in our supply chain but also preserves the artisanal craftsmanship that is central to our brand's identity.
Juliette O Designs is deeply influenced by Juliette's personal journey of healing through art, and this is reflected in our design philosophy. Our collections are crafted with a mindful approach, focusing on creating pieces that promote well-being, tranquility, and balance within living spaces. This emphasis on wellness is a key aspect of our commitment to making a positive impact, not only in how our designs look but also in how they make people feel.
At Juliette O Designs, sustainability drives every decision we make. By repurposing materials, minimising waste, and upholding ethical labour practices, we ensure that our products honour both people and the planet. Through our thoughtful, sustainable approach, we create timeless designs that respect the environment while supporting the well-being of those who create and enjoy them.
